Im looking to clean my reversal films, but the last cleaner I used started removing the color from the film itself. I think I bought the wrong stuff. Is there a difference between negetive and reversal film cleaners/lubricants.

do you mean the cleaner actually dissolved the color from the base? i've been using Rexton brand anti-static film cleaner. it's probably not the best as it smells just like isopropyl alcohol, so i've stopped using it. i need to get a cleaner/lubricant. i've heard you can dissolve a bit of beeswax in your cleaner to make a homebrew cleaner/lubricant. it's normal for cleaners to remove a bit of amber from kodachrome, although it is unnerving.
wittner-kinotek offers a product called 'film-renew'. and i've been trying to obtain some film tech brand 'film guard', but the local supplier requires i open an account and order by phone, i just haven't gotten around to it. i believe both of these are cleaner/lubricants that also renew color and reduce the appearance of scratches.
here's the link to filmtech: http://www.film-tech.com/
i've heard good things about it.
    good luck.

If you are getting a bit of an orange color coming off then don't be alarmed cause it is just a surface dye on the film and you are not hurting the emulsion. If you are taking emulsion off you will see some smearing on projection.

Ecco works great, just don't breathe it cool
